The Homosexuals
Musically, the Homosexuals inhabited a space all their own---ultra-melodic, lyrically sophisticated, rhythmically complex and unflinchingly experimental. Songs such as "Astral Glamour," "Hearts in Exile" and "Walk Before Imitate" are post punk nuggets so sharp it is a wonder they haven't been canonized beside their duller but more well-known contemporaries. The Homosexuals were "the best punk band that no one heard" (Pitchfork), "one of the most flawlessly great British punk/post-punk bands" (WFMU). For twenty plus years their legacy grew, with tape traders, record collectors and musical anoraks spreading the word like gospel. In 2004, two lovingly assembled reissues of the Homosexuals back catalog emerged and at long last, their music began to sneak into a wider public consciousness.
After some sporadic pick-up performances, Bruno Wizard officially reconstituted the band in 2008, assembling a cast of young NYC musicians to back him in America as the Homosexuals (Mike Dossantos from Apache Beat on bass, Travis Harrison and Dave Siegel from the Unsacred Hearts on drums and guitar respectively). Staying true to the Homosexuals' musical legacy, this new US unit issued the limited edition Love Guns?10" EP in October 2008 on drummer Harrison's Serious Business imprint. A follow up Serious Business 10" EP entitled Important if True will appear this spring. The band will be at SXSW 2009 and will be touring and recording extensively throughout the year, with eyes on completing a proper full length by the fall.
