Like Funkadelic, Ty Segall’s Emotional Mugger is music as cocaine. Mugger is Segall’s ninth solo album in eight years, during which time he’s dabbled in apocalyptic blackness, breezy sweetness, and garage rock at its Kinks-ian apex, riding each style to the end of the track, each one another coaster at the amusement park.
Mikal Cronin? More like Magical Cronin, because this avid Ty Segall collaborator produces nothing but sounds of magic. CDs, LPs, and cassettes of MCIII will be released on May 5 from Merge Records.
John Dwyer seems inexhaustible. He seems like he should be exhausted, what with all the touring and Thee Oh Sees albums and reuniting Coachwhips. And, yet, he seems to never stop…

Not only is this the first time White Fence has ventured out of his bedroom to lay down his sweet, 60s-tinged fuzz jams, but he’s also roped in other humans to play on the album too, notably in the form of garage renaissance man Ty Segall…
Let’s temper that whole “lack of an actual hiatus” thing a bit, because while Drop, Thee Oh Sees’ fifth official full-length in four years, is set for release April 19, it was technically recorded last fall…
Salad Days, set for release April 1 on Captured Tracks, appears to maintain both the aura and the lyrical thoughtfulness, but with some instrumental dressing separate (or supplementing) the previously forefront guitar.
While the length and dazzling variety of stops on DeMarco’s fall tour might hint at the Bus option, this special 2013 world tour promo video makes a pretty good case for Alien.
